As I’ve been on this journey of healing Chronic “illness” these last couple of years, I’ve gone deep into the worlds of functional medicine, gut healing, and holistic health. More than ever before.
I’ve done all of the functional tests, diets, protocols, it’s been a wild journey.
And it’s led me to studying functional hormonal medicine.
One of the easiest and baseline (and free) healing modalities is literally just getting sunlight.
Getting in the sun after waking, as soon as you can increases early-day cortisol release.
Many think of cortisol as “bad”, but really it’s necessary in our body’s functionality.
We just want it to be, well, functional.
Your early cortisol release:
☀ prepares the body for sleep that night so your body isn’t dysfunctionally producing these high levels of cortisol at night
☀ it boosts your immune system and metabolism
☀ it’s great for your hormones and libido! (And mood)
☀ it helps your body produce vitamin D - which helps your gut maintain the integrity of the gut lining and reduce inflammation (so for those of us that have had leaky gut or an IBD this is important)
Out of balance cortisol and spikes (which can also happen from blood sugar Imbalance), means more inflammation and stress and long term takes a toll on your gut health and hormonal system.
You also want to be mindful of how you transition into the night time
☀avoid LEDs with lots of blue light
☀use red lights or candle light
☀you can where blue blockers if looking at screens
☀ magnesium
☀not all sleep is the same! Your body goes through deeper detoxification and healing processes from 10 PM to 1 AM
☀ go to bed around the same time and wake up around the same time to help your rhythms sync
I’m curious, let’s open a dialogue below, what does your morning and evening usually look like?
What do you do first things, are you getting sun in the morning? Do you feel energized or tired during the day, how is your sleep?
